Yes I do, I enjoy my work. Sometimes I get bored in the lab, or tired when I’m doing fieldwork. Or irritated when I’m stuck on the computer. But in general I love my work.

As I answered in another question, there are many things that I like about my work, I find the parasite I research so interesting, but also I like the side of my work that could help programs that are trying to control it, stop people getting infected and treat people that are. So I feel that my interest and my work is useful to people. Also my work involves traveling to a lot of places that I wouldn’t normally go, and I see what its like to live and work in some of the poorest communities in sub-Saharan Africa. I do enjoy my work a lot.

Mostly, yes, very much. Like Anouk (and probably all scientists), I have boring days in the lab repeating experiments over and over to get a convincing answer and frustrating days stuck at the computer doing tedious paperwork or fighting with Excel spreadsheets but, on average, yes I enjoy it.

Yes and its important to find a job that you enjoy. Could you imagine spending 50 years doing a job you hated! Make sure you work hard and be the best you can be at whatever you choose to do – that way you wont be bored.

It is great! I think the best thing about it is every day is different. You never get bored! It is like solving mini puzzles, each with a new unusual trick!
