Hi heavymetal badger- you are asking some good questions – nice one.

Temporal/spatial physics isn’t really my area but popular science press talks about 4 dimensions – length, width, depth and time. If we could move in four dimensions we could effective time travel to anywhere so its currently not possible – or at least no one has published it.
One scientist (the name escapes me) did an experiment to see if time travel was possible. He hosted a party (to which no one came) and then published details of the party after the event – he hypothesised that time travellers could have seen the invite after the event and then gone back in time to his party- they didn’t so he speculated that time travel was not possible.
Think about it – if time travel was possible then people would have already have come back from the future so we would know about it now!!!

As for parallel dimensions – the theory is that for every descision made there is a parallel universe where the other descision was made. Therefore, thereofre are an infinte number of parallel universes out there. Where or how they exist bamboozles me but space is big and we know so little about it.

Sci-fi is a great way to understand/interpret these dimensions as they put a really cool spin on things and tend to be based on what is known in science at the time.

      Hope this answers the question.
