DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, it is one of the two types of nucleic acid found in our cells and it carries our genetic code. The name describes the molecule – a nucleic acid (made up of a string of nucleotides) and a backbone made up of phosphate and deoxyribose (a sugar molecule).
