My favourite ‘celebrity’ scientist is Jim Al-Khalili. I loved his TV series “Chemistry, a Volatile History”. And he has a cool name.

My favourite scientist lived centuries ago, in the year 702. His name was Jaffer as Sadiq. Jaffer lived at a time and place where no one had an interest in science. He was brilliant. He set up a university and taught people many different subjects.

One of Jaffer’s main interests was Chemistry. He described an early method to purify sulphuric acid, and he made many other advances.

I think it’s amazing that someone could do all that in a part of the world where science didn’t exist.
